For each unique piece of art, Paula combines a variety of materials, such as silk, wool, and alpaca fibers, some selected from her own flock of sheep and alpacas that free-ranges on her lawn. The process varies based on the desired effect and the idiosyncrasies of the fibers, but it usually involves barbed needles, soapy water, bubble wrap, palm washboards, and hot and cold water baths. The end result is a beautiful, hand-crafted fiber art creation ready for framing.
